Notes: According to the 1939 WPA Survey it was previously at 140 East 2nd Street (1923-28) and was subsequently at 630 E 5th (1933-38) and 193 East 2nd Street. There was a congregation organized in 1911 as the Smotrecher Benevolent Association. In 1913 another congregation of older Jews from Smotrech organized the Smotrecher Chevra Cadishe. About 1934 these two congregations merged. They may have been the predecessors of the Smotritzer Chevre Kedushe and Anshei Podolier Congregation.
