According to the Jewish Communal Register (1917/1918), Congregation Chochmath Adam Anshei Lomza V’Gotch was then located at 23 Hester Street, was an orthodox congregation, had been organized in 1877, had a membership of 125, a seating capacity of 200, sick benefit, insurance, free loan, and study societies, and was associated with a cemetery. According to the 1939 WPA Survey, the Chevra Hochmas Odom Anshei Lomza V’Gatch, also known as Chochmas Adam Anshey Lomze Vegatsch (Chevra Chachmath Adam Anshei Lomaz V’Gatch) (Brotherhood, Wisdom of Men, People of Lomza and Gatch) was then located at 23 Hester Street and had been organized in 1893. It was a combination of two groups, one from Lomza (known today as Łomża) and one from Gotch (known today as Gać) Poland.
