New York Historical Synagogues Map

Beth Hamidrash Hagodol of Harlem
Address: 110 East 105th Street, New York, NY 10029
Year Organized: 1904
Aux Societies: Free Loan, Ladies' Auxiliary, Study
Notes: American Jewish Year Book 1907/1908 notes that this address is the congregation's "permanent site." At the time, the congregation was temporarily housed at 62 East 104th Street. The 1939 WPA Survey lists the address as 110 East 195th St, but this is probably a typo. A note in the WPA Survey seems to imply that the synagogue was NOT defunct by 1939 : "In 1917 this congregation organized the adjacent Home for the Aged, which became independent 1921." First Rabbi: S. Kovalsky; Present Rabbi: S. Kohut 1935--.
