Notes: Previously 1846-49, Hall in Colenzer's Hotel on Ludlow, (1849-54) upper part of 2 houses on Ridge St., (1854-64) remodeled house. Columbia St., (1864-70) Church, 4th St & Ave C. "This synagogue by 18 young men from Bohemia under the name Ahawath Chesed (Love of Kindness). The present corporate name was given in 1890 when there was a merger of two synagogues, The Shaar Hashomayim (Gate of Heaven), defunct synagogue was originally on 79 Rivington St. and then on 230 East 15th St.
