Notes: Incorporated originally in 1874 as First Hungarian Congregation Ohab Zedek and then reincorporated in 1921 as First Hungarian Ohab Zedick and Congregation Bnai Israel. Previously: Avenue B & Houston (1873-1881), 70 Columbia Street in bought chapel (1881-1886, 172 Norfolk St , when sold previous syn., and purchased syn formerly occupied by Rodef Shalom (1886-1906), 18 W 116 (1906-1926). Erected present brick syn. 1926. This congregation absorbed the following congregations: Shomre Hadath(1886), Shearith Bnai Israel (1918), Pincus Elijah (1923). Burial: Washington, Riverside, Union Field, Mt. Zion. "In 1912 the famous cantor Joseph Rosenblatt joined the synagogue and served the congregation for 14 years."
