Notes: Was organized in 1853 according to the Jewish Communal Register (1917/1918) According to WPA 1939 Survery: "Organized 1845 by a group from Congregation Bnai Jeshurun. Previously known as Franklin street Synagogue, Forty-Fourth Street Synagogue, and Broadway Synagogue. Incorporated November 7, 1847 as Shaaray Tefila." Previously: Franklin St near Broadway, 1845-1846;1846-68 synagogue erected 110-12 Wooster St; at Armory on 36th & Broadway until synagogue at 44th St between 6th Ave & Bway consecrated 1869; 1868-1894 44th St synagogue erected; Carnegie Hall until present synagogue dedicated April 13, 1894. Congregation Beth El merged with Shaaray Tefila in 1871.
